it's time

As I start to get excited about this boy's wedding, I can't help but be reminded that not every by (or girl) I love can get married in australia. As the Get Up kids would say, it's time.

like a tsunami

the Sarkiiapone

Have you heard the story about the frog and the scorpion? It's an old story that everyone knows - so old, i don't think anyone knows who told it first. It goes like this:

One day a frog was sitting by the bank of the river enjoying the sunshine. A scorpion approached the frog and asked him for a ride across the river. "Frog", said the scorpion, "I need you to carry me across the river upon your back.”

The frog considered this request and replied "Scorpion, I know that if I carry across the river upon my back, you will poison me on the other side. I cannot carry you across the river upon my back."

"Frog", again said the scorpion, "Please, I have no wish to harm you, I promise. I just need to go across the river to find food. There is nothing left on this side for me to eat."

The frog considered the request again and then agreed to help the scorpion get across the river.

In the middle of the river, the frog felt a sharp sting in his back. The scorpion had stung him. "Scorpion!", cried the frog, "You have killed me and yourself as well. Why have you done this?"

"Because I am a scorpion...and that is my nature."

... sometimes things just are the way they are, and that's all there is to say about that.

the history of love

"Once we were sitting silently together. Suddenly one of us began to laugh. It was contagious. There was no reason for our laughter, but we began to giggle and the next thing we were rocking in our seats and howling, howling with laughter, tears streaming down our cheeks. A wet spot bloomed in my crotch and that made us laugh harder, I was banging the table and fighting for air, I thought: Maybe this is how I'll go, in a fit of laughter. What could be better? Laughing and crying, laughing and singing, laughing so hard as to forget I am alone, that it is the end of my life, that death is waiting outside the door for me."

... This is from a beautiful book I am reading right now, The History of Love, by Nicole Krauss. It is jammed full of beautiful words; and just perfect for a rainy saturday curled up with the little monkey.

Two snowmen are standing in a field. One says to the other: "Funny, I smell carrots too".

Last week I went up to the Saleve to build my first ever snowman! It was super fun, and also (I discovered later) a gentle introduction to the fahreezing temperatures I would have to deal with in Davos...
