capture the flag

today i made some fun swimming themed flags for I's bedroom. so easy and cute! here's how i did it:

1. take old illustrated (vaguely riefenstahl-y) book

2. cut out triangles & punch holes in them
3. thread onto wool
4. use to decorate riceball's bedroom

dans mon jardin

today I continued my efforts to increase the greenery in our house by mounting a staghorn fern. there are several handy how-to's online on this topic; I used a mix of these instructables from burke's backyard and apartment therapy

upholstery 101

when an unfortunate confluence of cat-vomit and washing machine shrinkage left me minus a chair seat cover this week, i was a little bit devastated. fortunately, some helpful advice from my mum and a handy youtube video later
(this guy is the greatest)
and i was able to remedy the problem with some old curtain fabric i had lying around. a fun project for a rainy monday!

barcelona gingerbread pavilion

We made our first ever gingerbread houses, loosely modeled on the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van der Rohe. So fun! Although decoration was a challenge, since m&ms and liquorice swirls seem out of place on a stark modernist building.

the possibility of flight

... in an homage to some happy childhood memories - and the last fading days of autumn - I made a kite. To paraphrase (okay, horribly misquote) George Bush, Jr: "it's about freedom, stupid". And my hope for a few more clear windy sunday afternoons.

Who wants to go fly it with me?
UPDATE: Mum sent me through a response to this post that I had to include! Junior Katy, Kim and Laura, long time kite lovers, first time callers...

this one is a birthday present that I have been holding on to forever. I finished it during some long evenings at the WIPO SCP last week... your tax dollars at work.
